The Last Two Weeks
Opinion
OK so when you write a book these days most of the publicity is up to your good self – the author (that is of course unless you are a author of repute – currently I am still just an author). So a while ago I got asked to speak at a conference in Miami and used the opportunity to travel around the world instead of to Miami and back. This is what I got up to.
I left on Sunday, and on Monday I spoke at Le Miami, without doubt the coolest conference I’ve ever spoken at. It’s ran by Serge and CJ and is a conference for all the cool hotels of the world. Andaz, The Standard, Soho House, Ace and so on all get together and talk shit for 3 days. I spoke on behaviour change using the Art Series Hotels work as proof of concept. It went down well, and the Overstay Checkout also won the prize for best promotion.
The next day there was a ‘Future Lab’ lunch where I dined with the founders / CEO’s of the hotels above – great fun. Next stop was Atlanta for a bit of a catch up before heading to New York. In New York I hosted my own little book launch mainly with friends now living there. We had it at The Ace – was great fun. Just before that Julian Cole had me on his Planning Salon Google Hangout for a chat about The Advertising Effect and cummins&partners.
Then I went to Cannes Lions where I spoke at The Forum on ‘Stop Producing Crap Creatives’, it was great fun, and went down well. On the Wednesday I joined a panel on Creative Effectiveness with WARC, as well as ran a session for Young Creative Academy with industry heavyweights Bob Isherwood and Matias Palm-Jensen. Finally, while there I participated in this rather embarrassing Hangout with Alex from Mumbrella.
next stop was London, where the lovely Nick Southgate, and Helen Goddard organised an IPA #Club44 event on ‘Action Speaks Louder Than Words’. It was sold out and a pretty good reception.
This morning I caught up with Hayley, and had a lovely breakfast where I got to meet Hayley’s friend the incredible Zoe Bell and her equally creative friend KT Tunstall. Later on I messed around doing some ‘reverse shoplifting’ that is putting the book in bookstores and asking people to tweet me if they found a copy. Some guy called ‘Black Night’ has already found a copy and tweeted me – great stuff.
That all took 13 days, and right now? I’m at the airport dying to get home.
